Just out of Curiosity… Should you Dry Clean your Bathing suit?
The answer is no.
Swimsuits are designed for wear in Water, and that’s what cleans them best! Some women spend a lot of money on their bathing suits and it has special embellishments or finer fabrics. They think that bringing it to us here at DeLuxe Dry Cleaners New Orleans will help it last longer, but in actuality it doesn’t. It’s best to wash your bathing suit at home by hand in cool water or in your washing machine on a low setting. Then hang it, and leave it to air dry.
Tumble drying your suit on low is not a good idea, as it will only lead to damaging the suit faster. The chemicals used in Dry Cleaning are too harsh for the synthetic fibers used in most bathing suits and can cause irreparable damage to a suit. Ironing and bleaching are also major ‘no no’s’ when it comes to your swim wear!
Also, don’t forget that if Salt water if it is not rinsed out right after you use your bathing suit, it can also quickly cause damage. So please remember, it’s very important to clean your suits with fresh water after going into the ocean!

Pierre is back!
Looking better (and less scary) than ever! Pierre had reconstructive surgery to address a “broken beak” he sustained when he ran into a basket stanchion while playing pick-up ball with a number of other mascots. To view his road to recovery, click on the picture.

The New Orleans Pelicans announced today that mascot Pierre the Pelican underwent successful surgery yesterday at Ochsner Medical Center in Jefferson.
Team Physician Dr. Matthew McQueen performed the reconstructive surgery at Ochsner Medical Center and has indicated the procedure was quite involved. “Injuries like this also affect other aspects of the skull, which had to be addressed.” McQueen and his team of experts, including Curator of Birds for Audubon Zoo Carolyn Atherton, expect Pierre to make a full and speedy recovery.
“Pierre…he is hardcore. He’s already put as much into his rehab as I have seen any athlete put into his rehabilitation. He had a lot of help from his coworkers, supporters and fellow mascots,” McQueen said. “He’s already quicker, faster, and stronger. I haven’t seen anything like this in my life. Maybe there is something about bird recovery that is special. I wish we could see this in all the people we treat. It is amazing.”

In 24 homes games this season, Pierre has recorded 193 t-shirt cannons, 453 pictures taken, and 679 balloons handed out. The New Orleans product has appeared in all homes games this season and is excited to make is return this weekend as the Crescent City hosts NBA All-Star 2014.

Here are 10 fun facts about Mardi Gras you may not know!
1: The name Mardi Gras means Fat Tuesday, a day of feasting before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday. This day is also known as Shrove Tuesday.
2:Depending on where you are, Mardi Gras celebrations can span more than a month, either starting on Twelfth Night or being confined to the 3 days before Mardi Gras day itself.
3: In addition to celebrations in New Orleans and Rio, other famous celebrations of the day take place in Baranquilla in Colombia, Port-of-Spain in Trinidad and Tobago, Mazatlan in Mexico and Quebec City in Canada. (See our article on Carnival Celebrations around the World for a snapshot.)
4: The first known Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans took place in 1837, though prior to that it was celebrated in Mobile, Alabama in 1703.
5: Floats became part of the New Orleans celebration in 1837 and since then have become an integral aspect of festivities.
6: The official colors of Mardi Gras have meanings. Purple is for justice, gold is for power and green is for faith. These were chosen by the Grand Duke of Russia in 1857.
7: Mardi Gras became a legal holiday in Louisiana in 1875.
8: Krewes, which are parade groups, started as private social clubs. The oldest of these is Comus which was founded in 1857.
9: The tradition of handing out items to the audience dates back to Renaissance Europe. In New Orleans, the first person to do that was a Krewe member dressed as Santa Claus in the 1880s.
10: The Mardi Gras balls are another important part of the celebrations, but some of those are by invitation only.
